While we're finalizing some upcoming new original releases, we thought we'd share this new mix from Chiang Mai.

While we’re finalizing some upcoming new original releases, we thought we’d share this new mix from Chiang Mai. Here’s the info:

We’ve got another great mix here from Chiang Mai for your listening pleasure. While his last mix was all techno, this one is very much focused on hip-hop, footwork, juke, and just general bass music. Quite amazing really, the mix of styles in this, and it is a hell of a lot of fun too.

Again, no tracklist here, but we recognize some Waka Flocka Flame, Jonwayne, Philip D. Kick, Flying Lotus and De La Soul. Download, listen, repeat, enjoy.

Just because it’s quiet on the blog lately doesn’t mean things aren’t happening.. we’re three releases (plus two amazing mixes) in to our revitalization, and things are going full steam ahead. We’re working on lots of new releases, which will continue to be released when they’re ready. A few things to look forward to in the coming months:

another new Chiang Mai mix

new original release from WNY (Winnie the Shit/Spark) with a ton of remixes

an (archival) various artist release.. bit of a mega-release, but again it’s all archival and out there already. the point of this is to collect some loose ends in one central location

an epic Chiang Mai ambient album

a group project featuring one of our most recently-released artists

..a few more things that are top secret at the moment

This is our first release of original works in exactly four years, and we couldn’t be more excited to be back on the netlabel scene bringing you quality digital works. We’ve decided that for our first release, it needed to be epic in scope, and it seems we’ve hit the mark with this multimedia release from Roto Visage.

The sounds of Roto Visage seep into the celluloid and flicker with the moving images of what has been argued as being the first surrealist film, Antonin Artaud and Germaine Dulac’s La coquille et le clergyman (The Seashell and the Clergyman, 1928). Implementing a phantasmagorical approach towards construction, a boundless number of sound sources and arrangement techniques were fused together to create this soundtrack. Roto Visage and Kikapu would like to thank Transflux Films for providing the film footage.

Our first release will be an amazing multimedia experience from one of Kikapu’s most prolific past artists. Won’t say anything more than that, but expect something epic in scope. Hopefully we’ll get this first release posted for everyone before the end of the year.

Chiang Mai sent us this amazing techno mix. Starts off bright and fun, gets dark and bass-y, then really ambient-ish, then all upbeat and happy again. No tracklist provided, but who cares? It’s well worth your listening time.

Grab the mix from our site, and while you’re online check Chiang Mai’s soundcloud page. We should have a full release from him sometime in the future.

Our first official release in nearly four years! DJ Abstract has put together an amazing mix of songs from old Kikapu releases. It’s called Kikapu Poo Vol. 1 and we hope it will be the first of many mixes here at Kikapu.

You’ll notice the site is still very incomplete. My fault. Having trouble finding time to add old releases. To find the complete archive of all of our old releases, visit the Internet Archive and get to searching. I’ll be adding old releases here haphazardly at best.

I wanted to share with everyone the timeline for the site and the label’s relaunch.

We’re (extremely slowly) adding all of our old releases to this site. This is taking much longer than expected, and I know that all of them will not be posted to the site by the time we are officially releasing new music again. It’s just going to be one of those slow processes that takes forever. We’ll eventually get everything added, but until then you’ll have to download old releases from the Internet Archive.

Now, onto better news: We should have our first releases showing up sometime in September. We’ll be starting off with a mix by DJ Abstract of songs from older releases, to sort of bridge the gap between the old iteration of the label and the new. Then we’ll follow up that mix with our first official release of new music, and it’s going to be an amazing release. We’ll be bringing you much more than just music, of that you can be assured. Stay tuned to this blog and/or our Twitter account for more news. We’ll be rolling again very soon.
